There doesn't seem to be a whole lot going today, so I thought I'd seize the opportunity to talk about a few things that wouldn't, by themselves, rate a separate post:
Klebe v. UT: I know I said that the judge would issue a decision on October 22nd. He didn't. He's still considering the motions. I'll give readers an update as soon as I get one.
Public Info Requests: I've got a couple of irons in the fire in an attempt to get information. I fired off another request to UTMB to get that contract with the private firm providing ER physicians, and I'm still waiting (and will be for a month or two) for an AG opinion regarding those deferred compensation accounts for UT component presidents.
UTMB Tower: The new hospital tower seems to have slipped off the edge of the world, not to mention the edge of the word, altogether. In fact, I haven't heard an edgy word regarding that hot issue for quite some time now. No doubt there's some behind-the-scenes jostling going on, an elbow to the eye here, a swift kick to the shin there, but not much is leaking out via the media, rumor, or otherwise. Galveston had better be in the background somewhere putting UT in a headlock, or that tower will turn up in League City. Galveston's middle class is already in trouble and shrinking. The loss of the tower could deal a crippling blow to that embattled bunch and leave Galveston's economy polarized between the relatively wealthy beach set and the poverty-stricken, UNINSURED, service set. Meanwhile, if anyone has heard anything, shoot me a comment via the blog.
Karen Sexton: Where'd she go? Anyone know? Her replacement seems to be keeping a low profile for the moment. Perhaps that's a good thing. Still, I miss Karen. She provided such good fodder for the blog. Her replacement, Donna Sollenberger, has some mighty big shoes to fill if she wants to loom as large as Sexton on the blog.
Frances Nesti: Remember her? She's the Pediatrics physician who complained about age discrimination and was subsequently run off by UTMB. We're looking for a decision from an overburdened EEOC before long now. The Blogmeister was in touch with investigators just a couple of weeks ago, and they said a decision was imminent.
That about covers the odds and ends today. Happy Tuesday!
