SCHOOL OF NURSING DEAN'S REPORT

Linked below is a 11/12/07 report from SON Dean Watson to the SON Faculty Assembly.  It contains a couple of interesting discussions.  Readers should check out the "Clarification of Faculty on Campus Expectations," which discusses unchaining faculty from their on-campus desks (note also that the dean's declaration concerning "the perceived expectation for faculty to be on campus five days a week . . . ."  She says, "To date except for the 20% Protected [sic] time, that was a fair interpretation."   Contrast this statement with a previous statement by clicking here.    Rather than continuing to call her former policy a "misconception," Dean Watson is taking responsibility now, and the Blogmeister applauds her for it.  It's the only way to build trust with faculty.

Readers should also check the discussions under "The Cost of Bringing Faculty Salaries to 'Market'" and "Faculty Matters."  The former says SON faculty will get a raise when UTMB throws money at the SON. The latter discusses the departure of a faculty member who "made a life change to come here" and left UTMB relatively quickly.  The Exodus is apparently still in full swing all over the campus.
