AH, SO IT WAS A "MISCONCEPTION"!

First, visitors are invited to read the document from Dean Watson linked below:

Perhaps, just perhaps, mind you, the misconception that School of Nursing faculty were chained to their desks sprang from Dean Watson's own words.  In a June 27, 2007, letter to one of the Blogmeister's grievants, the good Dean, clearly upset with my grievant for asking for various forms of research support, said the following:

Further, with regard to the "concerns" you expressed, additional monetary resources are not indicated, except for your 20% protected time, and otherwise authorized absences from your usual and regular faculty duties, you are expected to be on the UTMB campus.

Yep, the Blogmeister can see how this "misconception" grew legs.  In this age of cell phones and beepers, one wonders why faculty, even after the good dean's latest communication, must report their whereabouts to anyone, provided they meet their classes, committees, and other responsibilities.  Leaving the region is another matter, but technology keeps people on a pretty short leash as long as they are in the general Houston/Galveston area.
